Photo Galleries

Since the age of twelve (a loooooong time ago) I have been fascinated by photography. Over the years I have used every type of film-format from an old box camera, to various 35 millimeter systems (Leica and Olympus), to 60 mm roll film (Rolleiflex and Bronica ETRS), to a 4x5 inch Wista field camera (my "Ansel Adams" phase), to the modern digital film-less systems. In the digital domain, I have used the Nikon Coolpix 900, 950, and 990 models, the incredibly small Pentax Optio S, and just recently I became the happy owner of a Konica-Minolta A200.

Sicily Trip 2003

I went to Sicily for 2 weeks in November 2003, on a Grand Circle Travel tour. I was with a group of 44 wonderful fellow travelers, many of whom you will see in the photos. All pictures are titled and many have additional comments.

The photos were taken with the Pentax Optio S camera. It has 3 megapixel resolution and produces amazingly high quality images, considering its tiny size. It is about the most unobtrusive camera one could imagine. You may have seen the ads where they show it nestling inside an Altoids™ candy tin.

Fasching Ball at the Dayton Liederkranz German Club

The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Club was founded in 1890 in Dayton, Ohio to celebrate and foster German culture in the area. Every year the club has a Fasching Evening, where participants dress up in costumes and the whole proceeding is supervised by the Princess and Prince (Francis Houser and Jim Ward this year). Fasching in Germany is also known as Karneval, which it is also called in Rio De Janeiro. In New Orleans it is Mardi Gras.

The pictures were taken with the new Minolta A200. It has 8 megapixel resolution, with an 8x optical zoom, covering from the equivalent of 28 to 200 millimeter focal length on a 35mm camera. I used a Vivitar 283 external flash, since the built-in flashes in modern cameras are not nearly powerful enough for photos like these.
